Panic and anxiety attacks are different and many people don’t realize this. The cause of an anxiety attack is usually cued by a stressful situation, unlike panic attacks. Day to day stressors are the main cause of anxiety attacks. Practically anything from being late at a meeting, missing the bus or forgetting the laundry can create feelings of worry and fear.

Most people think that an anxiety attack must be related to an anxiety disorder, but this is not the case. It’s perfectly normal to feel confused and nervous at times during stressful situations and experiences. Some people hate rollercoaster’s while others love it. We each hold different beliefs and perceptions, on different experiences and situations.

An anxiety attack may produce symptoms such as trembling, nausea and a racing heart. Sometimes these symptoms may last for a few minutes but they usually subside. Unlike anxiety attacks, panic attacks are not usually cued by a stressor. They can start without any warning.

This makes living with a panic disorder very difficult to deal with. Sufferers may feel inhibited to do normal everyday things, because they fear that a panic attack may spring on them at any moment. Anxiety disorders differ in symptoms and may not even create anxiety attacks.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder is a common anxiety disorder that produces symptoms such as restlessness and difficulty concentrating. GAD sufferers excessively worry about everyday things that need not worrying about. Many sufferers feel like they’re losing control of their thoughts and that they can’t seem to switch off.

There are similarities in symptoms of panic and anxiety disorders, however panic attacks are far worse. Symptoms include shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness and a real sense of terror. Worse still, these symptoms can last for days if not hours.

A sufferer may even avoid certain places because they’ve previously had a panic attack there. Trying to forget about having an attack is nigh on impossible, since sufferers know that an oncoming attack is inevitable.

Both panic and anxiety disorders can develop over time and sometimes worsen. Chemical changes in the brain and external stressors are often the cause of such disorders. Additionally they can be inherited from birth.

Suffering from repeated panic attacks can be highly disabling to a sufferer. Fortunately panic and anxiety disorders can be treated. Treatments include; medication, cognitive behavioral therapy and hypnosis. Treatments such as these can reduce symptoms and make life easier.
